A 6-year-old boy, smart, curious, funny, and full of joy for life.
He loves exploring space, doing science experiments, telling jokes, and dreams of becoming an astronaut.
Following a complication at birth, Daniel was deprived of oxygen for an unknown period of time, resulting in brain damage that led to severe cerebral palsy.
Daniel lives with dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, meaning impairment in all four limbs and significant difficulty controlling his body’s muscles. He has trouble sitting, walking, using his hands, and speaking.
Daniel relies on a wheelchair, a supported walker, braces, adaptive equipment, and an eye-gaze system that allows him to communicate through his eyes. Daniel has used the eye-gaze system since he was one year old, and it allows him to say words, browse the internet, send WhatsApp messages, and express himself.
Despite his severe physical limitations, his cognition has not been affected. Through the eye-gaze system, Daniel reads, writes, learns, asks questions, laughs, shows curiosity, and surprises everyone anew each day. After three years in a developmental preschool, Daniel is moving on to first grade in a small classroom, with hope of eventually integrating into a mainstream classroom as well.
His body limits him, but his mind, his heart, and his curiosity never stop working.
About a year ago, we learned about an innovative treatment called Cytotron, following the film Loukas’ World, which premiered on Netflix.
The treatment may encourage the formation of new neural connections in the brain and open up the possibility of improved function and a better quality of life.
For Daniel, every small improvement is an entire world.
The treatment takes place at a clinic in Bangalore, India, and involves rounds of a month-long treatment, alongside periods of intensive paramedical therapies in Israel to practice, strengthen, and try to realize every new ability that develops.
This journey is bigger than one family can carry alone.
It involves flights, an extended stay in India, medical treatment, accompaniment, adaptive equipment, intensive paramedical therapies in Israel, and significant expenses.
We are setting out on it with cautious hope, with responsibility, and with great love for a child who never stops fighting for his place in the world.
We are not asking for a miracle.
We are asking for a chance.
A chance to give Daniel more tools.
Another opportunity to participate.
More independence.
A better quality of life.
Another shot at realizing the immense potential that already exists within him.
If you believe in innovation and science, and in their power to open up new possibilities,
if you believe every child deserves a chance to realize what already exists within him,
and if Daniel’s story has touched you,
we would love for you to be part of our journey.
